I'm not quite sure I'd phrase it like this, but it's close to what I think: Even back in 2023 or so people outside of tech would regularly claim the singularity already happened and LLMs were sci-fi style advanced superintelligences, so whatever they said was obviously right.

I've seen this happen to multiple co-workers, in the span of months. Two were laid off so I don't know how it's going with them, and another has backed off but not fully abandoned AI code. I'm resisting it entirely because of these problems.

There was a couple who streamed on youtube who reacted to meme compilations, and years ago one of the things they reacted to referenced a similar topic. During that stream everyone learned the woman has no inner voice (including herself, she'd never even thought about it before and had no idea an inner voice was a thing).

While he was asking her what it was like, he brought up the voiceovers in tv and movies that were supposed to represent a character's thoughts. She had no idea that's what it was supposed to be, and always just thought it was some nebulous narrator describing what was going on.

I think any such signals would be a similar "wrong mental model" situation where you can usually only tell by poking at it with very specific questions or actions.

The way the most recent season of the show ended it looks like humanity may have been misled about the war, so it may end up fitting that more closely once they're done (I haven't read any of the books, just going on your comment).

I have no idea what happened behind the scenes, but Memory Alpha used to have its own hosting and was migrated to the hosted wikia, I think between 2010 and 2015. The old domain still redirects: https://memory-alpha.org/

I remember backlash against the name change. It seemed like they were trying to usurp the whole concept of a fandom, a sort of evil SEO to trick people into visiting the site.

I still call it Wikia on reflex.

Same. I also call Facebook and Google by their true names, even though they tried to get out of their reputation by naming new parent companies.

Oh, and Twitter, even though its new reputation is more deserved than before it got acquired.

Suggesting they abandon a core part of their platform is a non-starter. At least in the US, the left isn't silent or neutral on illegal immigration, they are enthusiastically pro illegal immigration. One of the biggest reasons centrists have drifted to supporting the right is realizing the left no longer supports their values.

The people on the left who are "enthusiastically pro illegal immigration" are a tiny minority of all leftists. The majority does think that illegal immigrants shouldn't be mistreated deliberately, which conservative media outlets condense into "enthusiastically pro illegal immigration".
