Where's the irony? They are happy for anyone to be a part of their community, unless you are making other in their community feel unwelcome. It's spelled out in their code of conduct for you. If you're making innuendos that make other people feel unwelcome, you are not welcome
Because we know this entire moral panic is based on vague transgressions. The attacks on JK Rowling is the most obvious that everyone should be aware of. The cancellation of Jihad Rehab is another great example. If you want more I can supply a long list.
because once you attempt to start to apply any label it becomes more and more vague. If I am a black man from South Africa who hates white people for perpetuating the Apartheid, am I welcome or am I a racist? If I am a man who's own father transitioned to being a woman and I no longer feel comfortable around trans-people because I lost my 'father figure', am I a transphobe or am I welcome? I understand these are deliberately obtuse examples. I bring them up because I never know where on the spectrum the line is drawn for these labels yet people will gladly declare somebody a 'nazi' because their dad watches Fox News. Even asking the question "when does somebody on the right go far enough to be considered a fascist?" often is met with the retort "defending nazis makes you a nazi".
We both know what the 'answer' is because we are normal people who understand nuance - a skill many people have lost as they have come to have their ideals defined by their identity, not the other way around.

Those of the sane persuasion are sick of the loud taking all the space and being celebrated on the left. I'd rather have the stability of the nut jobs in the Vatican than MMIWG2SLGBTQQIA, defund the police, abolish the supreme court, abolish private property, etc, etc.
True enough, but the likelihood that the person calling another person a Nazi is correct about the other person is so low that it’s much more likely they’re wrong rather than right. (This is true just statistically speaking.)
Absolutes are not usually very compelling nor very interesting, just as high improbabilities are usually neither compelling nor interesting.
Yet to be determined if they actually ship or do stuff at a reasonable rate. It only has any notoriety because of the subject matter and jumping on the hate-DHH train.

So it seems this started because of DHH. Let's judge the technology by the technology, else we are just taking a holier-than-thou approach whereby we think we are better than others because we don't commit certain sins, which is a real problem because when we look inwardly and honestly we shall see that we are guilty of many of the same sins. Aside from the actual politics, DHH is clearly in "fuck you mode". I certainly don't trust that he's going to make decisions in the interest of the broader rails community.
That post called for deportation and not killing of illegal immigrants. If you people ever interact outside your bubble, those are normal opinions held by normal people (even though I would not consider DHH normal) and you people are snowflakes.

Is there any evidence that handwriting in cursive is better than handwriting normally? The Van der Meer study only compared cursive to typing or drawing, not handwriting.
It's rather suspicious to leave normal handwriting out of the study, and makes me suspect bad faith.
How exactly is cursive writing "normal" though? Do you see this text all connected and cursive? It's clearly not (unless you have some custom font setup).
Anecdotally my kids wrote a fair bit before they were forced to do “joined up writing”. Since then they have stopped almost entirely and what little they do write is far less legible than before.
If there is one thing I would ban from education it’s this 17th century torture device.
How does this work? In school if they’re forced to write in cursive surely they still have to write the same amount? And if it’s writing in their spare time that has reduced they can write non-cursive so that shouldn’t be a blocker.
Once they hit year 6 or 7 (about 10-12) all bets are off
My eldest son was so damaged by the cult of obsolete writing that he has to do everything on computer now, including exams. His writing before was neat and fast.
Seems like a simple problem to solve for the schools. Don't accept typed work. Handwriting only. It was 25 years ago now but I remember learning cursive about age 7 or 8 and it was something we worked on for no more than a few months. And I feel like most kids were excited to be able to write like 'adults'. It's really not some insurmountable challenge.
RMS would probably agree with you and think that I'm apostate. But there's an open source license for the full spectrum of software authors' preferences. Depending on the circumstances some could turn out to be a poor choice.
I know some lawyers who specialize in these choices. Everyone thinks their choice doesn't smell, but there are the resources to make informed choices.
With MIT there isn't much to goan with business comptiable licensing.
There the question turns to "you may sue me, if it breaks" as reasoning. In reality sueing will rarely work, but having a business contract satisfies the company's board and insurance about using the software over an "AS IS"-license alone.
It helps just fine. The original software is still there, available for anyone to use for free. AWS et al can't take that away from us, no matter what they choose to do with their fork.
When they say "doesn't help", they're talking about the developers of the original software you want to use for free getting to eat food and have a roof over their head.
