I miss the scene and custom cases. MN PCTech still exists and I love reading their builds. It was more of an art to craft custom cases but the payoff was showing up to a lan party with a custom case no one else has.

Windows comes with the ability to do wsl so you somewhat have Linux as well even though it's limited in some ways. May be worth a shot cross compiling it.

Yes. But WSL doesn't come with NPU passthrough, so I still can't test the hardware-specific behavior. Cross-compiling the project with WSL is plausible. I will try it and leave for the community to do verification.

Last I checked windows handles compressed files in 4 byte or 4kb or something chunks and is incredibly slow to compress or decompress a lot of files.

I have a pile of dell e series with the og i7 in them. Still can run windows 11 but yeah Linux is beautiful on these things.

Yeah, I have a couple of e6220s, one running MX Linux and the other Win 10 IoT LTSC. The MX one is my "road warrior" travel laptop as it's tough and still acceptably fast, but I also don't care too much if gets lost or damaged.

Lenovo think pads don't have strix halo... you'll have to go to hp for that and pay $1000 over list price for it. Asus rog z13 is probably the only hope for that.

Yeah I know... ZBook Ultra G1a is the only "notebook" alternative while the z13 i more like a "Pad" with keyboard - and while the zbook seems to be a good notebook in general, it is not > 14.5". Otherwise I would have bought it right away.

Another option as buy a used T14s with Ryzen 7840, 32GB and 2k Oled for 699 - but it was too far to check it out and pay it in cash, so I skipped... regrets²

I think Lenovo has a parts depot website. I was able to get parts (LTE modem kit) for an 8 year old model there.

For me, I have a service that has multiple vectors of what would be called an API - PowerShell Modules, WMI, RESTFUL Web Services, some are available, some can do some things, some are more direct, some are not allowed with enterprise security etc.

Either way, I don't do what you suggest. I have self-learning rules and have the models build a well-rounded API engine once, then re-use it with query scripts through skills. Its portable and flexible in many environments.

No one is saying to wrap your local power shell modules in an MCP. That would be pointless and stupid.

They are useful for taking local llm models and delivering them with HTTPS to harnesses that expect it or to another machine. Other than that I'm not sure what I'd personally use them for.

Claude models were blocked from logging into my own VM with my own credentials I gave it using ssh that I also gave it by its guard rails. I wouldn't doubt other models are nerfed but...you should provide some context around your comment

That's a highly weird law. Someone let the cat outside or feeds/keeps it there thus should accept the way cats are as their responsibility.

It’s more that society accepts that cats are part of it, and considers that people should adapt to cat behavior patterns rather than we not having any free roaming cats.

It’s a deliberate choice to treat pets the same as non pets.
