> since Bush nearly doubled the size of the Federal Government and blew up our finances with simultaneous tax cuts + massive spending expansion

We were 10 years from paying off the national debt when Clinton left office. 10 years!

To be fair, if the US government had continued paying off the debt, the only way the (global) books would've balanced would've been for the US populace and businesses to take on waaaaayyyyyy more debt. Not sure if that would've been better.

(For a much better explanation of this, read Trade Wars are Class Wars).

What would job numbers look like if the federal government wasn't doubled?

I say this as someone who thinks Bush was an absolute idiot and would love to see the government shrunk.

TSA is basically a jobs program, what happens if we get rid of it?

Some of us resent the assumption that we're AI because we know how to use the language, and use them more often.

Not for the employees, obvs. I'm not going to celebrate misery, especially if that misery makes an already-tough job market that much worse.

I haven't updated this in quite a while, so probably more than a few broken links: my list of distributed systems reading lists.

For years, I've felt my dream application for my iPad would be a wireframe view of my vehicle that allowed me to explore the mechanical functionality as it moved. See the clutch interact with the transmission, see the 4-wheel drive engage, all while in motion.

This is the part that I feel the “just turn it off” crowd don’t think enough about.

The algorithms helped give us the single most dysfunctional and corrupt US administration since the 1800s.

> I've now uploaded my drivers licence, a photo of my passport and still apparently that's not good enough for them.

After the recent news about >150 million drivers' license photos being stolen from an ID verification service, I'd be very hesitant to do this for anything I didn't absolutely need. ID theft is a lot easier when someone has a photo of your sensitive documents.

I just changed the hours on a business nearby, took ~3 days. Your experience is not universal, but definitely frustrating.

My lone claim to fame, now harder to track down because Twitter decided my lack of activity was somehow suspicious and killed my account, was a brief exchange with Phil Schiller about pluralization of Apple devices.

> One need never pluralize Apple product names. Ex: Mr. Evans used two iPad Pro devices.
