They have a lot of compute, so I think it makes sense to spray and see what works. Anthropic is limited in that regard, and focused in coding/tech, but OpenAI don't need to do the same. They even got the lead without having to focus in coding only, which is remarkable.

I don't think that's true. It's hard to argue that Elon Musk, the richest person and spokesperson of tech for a lot of people, never participated in SV sex parties or had weird sex behaviors. Or Trump, the president of the USA, has a clean history of standard sex as well. Or Bill Gates, the nice philanthropist, never engaged in weird sex circles. But that doesn't make them lose their leadership positions or status.

Sex cult is beyond mere weird sex behavior.

Why? Wouldn't being part of a famous pedophile social circle impact a person's seriousness perception?

Amazing how people come with all these rationalizations instead of just accepting that they are not the kind of people who like casual sex. There's nothing wrong or unhealthy about casual sex, it's just not for you. You can have your loving sex all your life, nobody will force you to have casual sex.

About orgies, it bothers me how much people who never frequented these circles have so many opinions about how bad or unhealthy they are. I know religious people who have the "healthy sex life" and are completely deranged. I could say that they are that way because of their sex life, but I would be as wrong as you are.

Nothing unhealthy in promiscuity and orgies? The people's moral standards have indeed fallen low. This sort of behavior spreads diseases like a wildfire. As for why people seek this, it's because it's easy to project your demonic fantasies onto a person you don't know. Once you get to know your partner well, his or her personality dispells your imagination and you have to behave in a more upright manner. It's probably why it's common to wear masks on such events.

Some of us have spent countless nights with other kids locked in the basement during parents' swinger parties and/or been there and done it ourselves as adults and found it to be as much an empty experience as the parent poster suggests. Molestation victims also frequently report the same sentiment. Removing love from the equation turns the act of sex into mechanical fluid exchange, and the participants into human livestock.

Promiscuous people are as annoying as those who refuse to eat at the same restaurant twice. You have an insatiable appetite for novelty that you need to see normalized in others-- to defer ever having to face the very emptiness we're describing.

If you actually found it fulfilling, you wouldn't need to sell others on something that sells itself.

Thank you for sharing your personal experience. Not only is what you said compelling, but it again highlights the importance of experience as a path to knowledge. Rationality is brittle and cannot access much of the vastness of human experience.

You had a shitty childhood, I'm sorry. About the rest, I guarantee you that it's just not for you. No problem in that, but don't be mad that other people like the lifestyle. There's nothing unhealthy in that. You can be as puritan as you want, nothing unhealthy as well!

How having lot of sex would cause harm to my neighbours?

They might get sad because they feel like they're missing out

I'm sure OP would argue that the breakdown of the family structure and social cohesion has a deleterious effect on society as a whole, which includes your neighbors.

It's really a hard time for freedoms, huh?

Puritanism: The haunting fear that someone, somewhere, may be having a good time.

You didn't explain why it's illegal or why distillation is bad.

I don't agree with using your credentials to show your code quality, but I don't doubt you have better standards than most developers. That said, stop trying to change their minds. Antirez was a good at programming until he started coding using AI only. The same will be said about Carmack and Linus.

What they are saying is increasingly difficult to defend, but they will do it anyways. I see the same arguments at my job, and I just gave up arguing against

I mention my background because it is relevant context: I spent nearly 30 years building software used by billions of people. If you use Windows or macOS, you have likely used code I helped ship. I’m not going to apologize for that experience or pretend it does not inform my judgment.

Some engineering problems (such as designing a performant thread-quantum algorithm) require depth accumulated over years of working on real systems at scale. That is not elitism; it is simply how specialized expertise works. Experience is unevenly distributed, and that matters when evaluating technical claims.

When I say I trust LLM generated code, I mean that in a qualified, engineering sense. I do not treat an LLM as a slot machine: enter a prompt, paste the output, and hope. I use a deliberate workflow for decomposition, prompting, review, testing, validation, and integration. Developing that workflow took substantial time and experimentation.

The useful question is not “Can an LLM write code without oversight?” It obviously cannot, at least not reliably for nontrivial work. The question is whether an experienced engineer can build a process that makes LLM output trustworthy enough for particular classes of work. In my experience, the answer is yes. But the process, judgment, and willingness to do the work are the hard parts.

What is the game?

It did not work properly on Wine nor Windows 10, that was the entire reason for trying it out.

fwiw, PCGamingWiki[1] has a link to a patch[2] that someone wrote to fix the compatibility issues. If you're playing from the CD edition, you might also need SafeDiscShim.[3]

Good luck trying to argue that with people nowadays. Culture war mentality is perfect for wishful thinking, and it's hard to avoid falling into the trap.

Google, Apple, Facebook, etc, had their woke phase with tremendously growth, and nobody says "get woke, go broke" when they made billions. What about Twitter losing all its users because of Musk? Most of the people in my social circle who said that are still using Twitter nowadays. And if you dare to say that they are drinking the Kool-Aid, you are "not following politics close enough"

If you open an office in another country and hire people there, is that outsourcing? If so, would big tech have to close their "international" offices if they don't want to pay the 25% tax? I ask that because I'm seeing these offices opening a lot in the last 3 years

Yes? I mean, I'm not saying that they are necessarily wrong about the risks, but it's pretty hard to ignore how conveniently their positions align with a regulation capture that their companies are going for. If they all left, that would give a better signal than "I'm SO AFRAID of what we are creating, but I cannot leave millions on the table, right?"

Precisely. These folks are in the middle of frontier AI development and they're saying "someone should do something". It's like saying "n-word". You're making me say it instead of just not saying it.
